Shinji has just enlisted into national service today. I went with his dad to send shinji to tekong for his ns enlistment. Upon boarding the ferry to tekong, the whole introduction, tour of the facilities, pledge ceremony and food tasting lasted for 3 hours. My Msn will be rather quiet at late nights now.

more pics from jiji's enlistment

Quebec Trip - Day 8

trying out the medium size setting for pictures for this post...

cos the previous posts, i load the pictures with the small setting~

This morning is Full Dress, Full Run Thru including individual band's display too~

The korean gers in their costumes, minus their make-up

the korean guys

the last few days, this bass bonist came over to me to let me noe where got printed wrongs notes etc, he only told me n some of the other bass bonists.
he's the 1st bonist that i get to spoke to~
i tink his band is the canadian black watch band? (pls correct me if i'm wrong, thnx~)
he's 1 yr older then me n had been in his band for more then 10yrs too...
he using a lacquer yellow brass besson bass with double hagmann valves~

the chile band then came over to ask to take a pic with us, so i pulled peiling in too~ hee~ ^^

the safcb horns, chile horns, german horns n the canadian naval reserve horns~
so nice the 3 bands same uniform... cos all 3 are navy bands~

the uk band's helmet

our guys asking about the bagpipes... how it works, etc...

lunch after the full run-thru

for the next 3 days' dinner is the bread ration box...
i really love the sandwiches.... the ham stacked so much inside~
i like~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!! ^^

someone rallied n got most of the trombones outside the colisee to take a mass trombone section photo.... not all are present, cos some of the bands are not involved in the marching opening/closing ceremony, they are programmed as the seated massed bands.

from this pic,i see, safcb, canadian air command central band, canadian air cadets, chile navy band, french navy band, german navy band, canadian black watch, canadian r.22e band, canadian army(?the band on our left for the opening/closing is which band?) ^^

a lot of other bands pple came to take pics with our mdc colleagues~

the chile navy band's bonists in action - their band's display segment

after the opening ceremony, there's a 3hrs wait b4 safcb's display segment, cos we're the last band to perform for every evening~
so i went to explore the corridor of the stadium...
looking for the festival's sovenior booth~ heee~ ^^

the layout of the colisee pepsi stadium~

the russian bass bonist, quite interesting to try to communicate with him.
cos he dunno english, and i dunno russian, but some how we managed to communicate thru music, n our equipments~
it was on the last day at the convention centre, then a english-speaking russian was around, n translated our conversations~ ^^

the cadets band having their performance~

we had just finished setting up the stage...
had to wait for the cadets to finish their performance b4 we can start the sound check.
while the cadets were performing, i saw this group of bikers, park their bikes n walk over to listen.
i notice their jackets very cool...
so i had to ask to take a pic of their jackets~

they were very nice pple, not like the stereo-types we seen on movies...
turn out their jackets says they're canadian military veterans~
cool~

took a pic with the armoury behind~
and yes~ that's a real piece of maple leaf in my hands.

our sound check~

as the performance venue is nearby, we walked back to the convention centre to change into our concert attire~

after that, we walked back to the venue~
saw this very cute baby, love the eyes,
but my camera couldnt capture the beauty of it~

the safcb trombone section for fimmq'08

after our performance, we went back to the convention centre to pack our stuffs...
2/3 of the band went back to the hotel n rest, while the 20 of us went back to the performance ground to watch the next band's performance which is the nypd jazz band~
when we were taking our seat on the grass patch in front of the stage,
the crowd noticed us, n applauded for us~ they recognised us as members of the singapore band~
we felt so appreciated~ it's an experience we'll receive when we're overseas...

the director of the nypd jazz band

the nypd jazz band

the jazz band was cool~ wonderful soloists~
after the show, me n ronnie went to speak with the trombonists a little, n exchanged tokens~

and the 20 of us boarded the smaller bus back to our hotel~
