Hi all...

hahaha~
missed me?

finally got a chance to blog again...

been a month + izzit?

blogging on internet....
really open ur diary to anyone n everyone who surfs the net...

hahaha...
cos i just found out 1 of my officers has read my blog...

i wonder how many of the others do too~

was advised n reminded that blogging is not a crime...
but i have to be tactful always in blog entries(esp. things in the band that i blog abt...)

_____________________________________________

performed in 2 concerts, watched 3 concerts since my last blog entry...

1)st pat's concert was as per norm....
went off quite smoothly...

alumni's turn, we went on stage performed n some of us stayed behind at the dressing rooms to hear the band perform over the pa system...

2)went to nusws's concert...

it's the first time i'm hearing them...
went to listen to freddie's solo - colors for trombone by bert appertmont.

saw some familiar faces performing in the band...

3)went to fuhua sec sch's cultural nite...

sat with some of their alumni...
nat n cheryl....

the band did well for abba gold....
el relicario was passable... was telling nat n kahyan on msn n sms after the concert, wad was lacking in the piece by the way they performed it...

my opinion though... but the band was good that nite...
as can see from the audiences's response...

got some of the more elder ang-mo educated ones(teachers, mums, aunties of the performers i guess)...
when they heard the band is playing abba gold...
they went whispering so happily to one another..
at least something tt they are familiar with from the concert....

when the band played abba gold... they were clapping n humming n smiling to themselves...
remembering the good old days when they were as young as their kids now.... listening to abba's songs on radio or records....

the drum group from fuhua is very impressive.... normally when u tink chinese drums group, u tink of endless drumming, start till end....
but this group.... have cheoreographed movements.... the boys was in tempo, the rhythm was tight, their movements sharp....
n i notice a sikh boy(cos i saw a boy wearing the a boy size turban) in the group too.... cultural exchange....

regardless of race, language or religion.... this is wad our fore-fathers envisioned for singapore...

been to other sch's cultural nite b4... i tink fuhua got quite a number of talents in them...

4)went to watch Mirificus Wind Symphony's concert...
(Band of the Toa Payoh South Community Club)...

their first after a major reshuffling.... they held auditions for all the present n potential new members. the audition was also opened to those who's interested in joining the band.

the band size was reasonably well, compared to the last concert....

went to the concert, tried out the camera i bought from a fren, a 2yr old sony cybershot f-828(still got 3 yrs warranty).

not used to the camera.... took 257 photos... but only happy with some of the shots... as most of it turned out blurry....

5)performed at Esplanade again, it's beautiful sunday.... for SAF Central Band...

the audience's turn out was very good.... the audience filled up all the way to the 4th floor circle 3 seats.... wow~

last year's was only till 3rd floor's circle 2... and tt 3rd floor was only half filled...

for this yr's Beautiful Sunday, it was a fun-themed concert...
pieces tt got it's title from different kind of food, from different movies, olympics...

one for the piece we played was t-bone concerto - composed by Johan De Meij.
it's a 3 movement piece written for a solo trombone, accompanied by a band(this piece also have a piano accompaniment version). as the title suggests t-bone.... one tinks of a t-bone steak.... and for a steak it's always cook to 3 different percentage of cooked meat... 1.rare, 2.medium or 3.well-done....

for this concert, the band performed the 1st movement titled 'rare' n featured 1 of our band's lower brass tutors on solo trombone, Mr David Wong(former Bass Trombonist with the SSO).

the band also played several 'pop' songs like gelato con caffe, the best of earth, wind n fire n tequila.....

my fren winston did a great job on his trumpet solo in tequila.... the solo stirred the audience's mood to a greater HIGH(the girls in the audience were screaming out in support~!) as the band played it as it's closing piece....

the audience asked for an encore n we gave them one....
the ever popular 76 trombones from the musical 'Music Man'.....
(well there were 5 trombonist on stage, but we did the 76 anyway)...

hee~ ^_^v

SAF Central Band's next concert.... is in May 2006...
featuring a guest conductor, a trombonist and a saxophonist from the USA....

for more updates, free feel to visit the band's website....

Best Regards,

Keith Koe LTCL
