Synopsis
The Singapore Armed Forces Central Band proudly presents 'In Harmony 23', featuring a duo of Italian guest conductors Giulano Moser and Franco Puliafito and a repertoire of pieces hailing from a number of cultures.

The first half of the concert, conducted by Giulano, features an arrangement of Piece Heroique, a work for the organ by Cesar Franck. The Snow Queen, an original composition based on a tragic Alps tale by Giulano will be premiered. Also playing is Australian-heritage inspired Winanga-Li, the result of a collaboration between Hardy Mertens, Australian composer Mark Smerdon and artist Sara Smerdon. It depicts the Outback and Aboriginals of Australia, while celebrating the raw beauty of nature and mourning the loss of wisdom.

Under the baton of Franco Puliafito, the band will perform his arrangement of Fugue II from The Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach and Prayer: For Winds & Ethnic Asian Percussion by Hardy Mertens, as well as premiere Naos, an orignal work by Franco.

Conductors' Biography

GIULIANO MOSER
Giuliano Moser first studied music at the Liceo Musicale di Trento, from which he graduated in 1993. He went on to graduate from the same Conservatory in French Horn in 1995 and then, aged just 23, in Band Instrumentation. In 2004 he obtained a degree in Major Field Band Conducting from the Brabants Conservatorium of the Fontys University of Professional Education in Tilburg (the Netherlands), where he was taught by Hardy Mertens.

He worked with the Orchestra Filarmonica Trentina, specialising in Horn with Michael Thomson, Froydis Ree Wekre, Nilo Caracristi, Giancarlo Parodi and Marco Pierobon. He founded the Leitget quartet, an ensemble that plays natural 18th century horns. He furthered his studies in Band conducting and composition of original band music with Daniele Carnevali, Johan de Meij, Franco Cesarini, Felix Hauswirth, Jan Van Der Roost, Jo Conjaerts and Jan Cober. He is currently an arranger for several chamber music ensembles like the Grande Banda Rappresentativa Federazione Corpi Bandistici del Trentino and the Trentino Wind Band. Since 1999, he has been conductor of the Complesso Musicale Mezzocorona. In 1997 he took part in the Balaton International Music Contest in Hungary with the Banda S. Valentino di Faver, where he came in First in the specific category, and overall fourth. During the 1999-2000 season, he conducted the Banda Rappresentativa Giovanile della Federazione Corpi Bandistici del Trentino at concerts in Italy and Germany.

In recent years he has been a guest conductor and trainer with a number of Bands, and held training and advanced courses for Band Conductors. He composes and arranges band music and works under the Scomegna and Animando publishing Companies.

FRANCO PULIAFITO
Franco Puliafito studied music at the F.A Bonporti State Conservatory and graduated in horn with Prof. Michele Fait in 1993. He then studied composition and graduated in Band Instrumentation in 2000 with Daniele Carnevali. In 2007, he finished the study of Band Conducting. Franco has played horn with many orchestras and chamber music ensembles, but has a predilection for wind symphony orchestras, with which he has gained considerable experience at an international level. He currently works, with the €œStanislao Silesu” Band in Samassi (Cagliari) and the Trentino Wind Band€(Trentino). He conceived the international contest Marciando con la Banda€ and was art director of the first edition. He is often invited by other bands to act as guest director. He directs the Banda degli Istituti Superiori di Tione (Trento), which has a busy concert schedule in Italy and abroad. His original compositions for band have won various national awards.
