i've been doing some instrument shopping...

1)bought a F.E. Olds marching mellophone(in F) from a 2nd hand goods shop in amk...
wanted to buy a marching trombone initially, so as to use it as a bass trumpet in my fren's trumpet ensemble, hoping to help push start his idea...

my fren thought he saw one at the 2nd hand goods shop, so i went to take a look at it when i went amk to catch a movie.....

it turns out to be a marching mellophone....
test-blowed it....

nice instrument, despite the age of the horn, it still plays well...
much like a bigger, mellower flugalhorn....
cos i played on a F.E. Olds flugalhorn before...
the mellophone looks about the same age and condition as the flugalhorn...

anyway, i got it at a nice cheap price from the shop...

2)bought an Accent Euphonium..

for those who doesnt know yet, the music shop at jln jurong kechil, aka as Accent to most of us...

they have been promotiing their own house brand of band instruments. the instruments are built and assembled overseas i think...

hence accent are able to sell them rather cheap compared to common brands like bach or yamaha...

i tried their 1st model of euph, i quite like it, but it was using a small bore leadpipe and 4 parallel piston valves.

so with this 2nd model, its a 3+1valves, something like a besson 700 series or yamaha equivalent.... only thing is it's not a compensating design...

hoping that they will be bringing in a 3rd model with 3+1 valves and compensating tubings...

so for the time being, i'll just be playing on this when i have to...

3)the bass trombone that i have so long awaited for has finally been paid for and shipped to me this month...

it's an Edwards B454 bass trombone with dual independent thayer valves.

mine comes with the edge bracing and bullet brace...

i sold my Getzen bass trombone last year so as to make way for this one...

the getzen is like an introduction to playing an edwards...

the design are similiar just that with the edwards, they comes in more varieties in choice of bell thickness, material of bell or tuning slide, different types of hand slides - dual bore or single, etc....

the moment i tried the edwards, it took me awhile to get used to playing a dual bore, double thayer bass bone...

but the feelings gets better as i plays with it... i was able to tame it easily, and it got used to me fast

unlike the edwards, my old getzen was like a wild untamed beast...
the 1st day, i like it so much,
but on the 2nd day, it failed on me, i couldnt control the sound/tone i was making to create with it.

there was a period of time i actually caged it and left it in a corner for 3-4 months b4 taking it out to play on it again...
somehow it worked... it became tamed, and was slowly getting used to me, n me to it.

didnt want to sell it away, but i had to, to raise the amount for the edwards.

anyway, it was sold to a fellow bass bone fren.
i heard him played on it, it's been a year...
and he has learnt to control it well...
he sounded great on the bass bone, fat/thick/rich bassy note from his lower range...

omg, i better get to practicing again, or i'm facing a strong new challenger...

lol~

4)in no.1 i mentioned i was wanting to buy a bass trumpet, i was browsing online and i saw a bass trumpet, it was rather cheap, new, so i just placed an order for it...

it on the way to singapore now.... i wonder how it would sound...

will the sound be like how it's priced at?

enticipating with excitement...

i tried couple of bass trumpets in chicago when i was there for the midwest band convention in dec'02... nice... but they all piston valves...

the one i ordered is with rotary valves.... hmmm....

oops, it only has 3 valves, forgot to ask if got 4 valves, but i'm not sure if i'll need the 4th valve.....

bought 4 insts in 1 month.... sigh...

is it caused of the down period in my life, so i had turn to shopping to quench that bad feeling? u know how some pple shops compulsively when they're down..
usually in movies they buy random clothes or stuff they dun need?

as least for me, i can get to use no.2 n no.3 in my work as a trombonist, euph tutor...

no.4 if my fren's trumpet ensemble is up n running... it wouldnt be a waste of money..

as for no.1..... i dunno.... maybe it's so cheap tt's y i bought it~!

hahahahaha......

cheers.....~

life reaching a new point....

it's rather contradictive in a way...

mid-life crisis?

i dont know...

having many high points and major low points...
sometimes highly motivated, but at the same time depress over an important brooding detail of my life...

it's mostly saddening now...
but trying hard to find new highs to contain myself...

hope i can pass this year "satisfactially"....

i thnx frens who hv been encouraging me on, i'm sorry for disappointing some along the way...

but i need some time to adjust...

i'm preparing for a loss aft 9yrs....
which would be a worst case scenerio....

but i'm trying to push on...

i dont want to leave, not like that, as i felt i havent left any mark yet...

i wanna contribute, but sometimes i also feel unappreciated...

............

as u can see, my thoughts are in a mess, i type as it all flows into my mind....

wish me the best, pray for me...~
